CLINTON K. GJERDE-Oil & Watercolor Paintings With a BA degree in Art and Music at Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota and a MA in Art Education at Wisconsin State University, Superior, Clinton started his teaching career in art at the Amery School District in 1961 with K-12 Art and 7 country schools.  During his travels to the different schools, he enjoyed the beauty of the countryside.   Most of my own inspiration comes from nature, whether real or imagined. I have always preferred working with oils, later working in watercolors to avoid dusts and chemicals used during my teaching career.  Lately, I have returned to working with oils over a dark background.  I have found it easier to develop shadows and depth applying the paint with a palette knife, rather than a brush.  This technique builds textures and avoids using thinners and varnishes.  Recent painting have involved water themes, with a bend towards fantasy.  I do Art for my own pleasure and have mostly shown my work locally.
